My Why
No One Should Have to Hide.
People often ask me why I started Bridge Forward. The answer is simple. Because I don’t want another family to feel like they have to hide.
Compassion for employees. Clarity for employers. Hope before a crisis.

Meet the Founder
Meet Bernadette Bartsch, Founder of Bridge Forward
When addiction touched my life, it didn’t just affect me. It affected the people closest to me.
No one ever told them they had to keep it a secret.
They just believed they should.
They saw the silence. They felt the shame. They noticed the looks from other people. Like so many children whose families are affected by addiction, they quietly learned that this was something you weren’t supposed to talk about.
That breaks my heart.
We tell people that addiction is a disease, yet too many families still feel they have to hide it as if it were something to be ashamed of.
I want to change that.
I want people to know that asking for help is not a weakness. Recovery should never begin only after someone’s life has fallen apart. We can start the conversation sooner. We can create workplaces where employees know exactly where to turn. We can support families before they feel overwhelmed. We can help people find hope before a crisis changes everything.
“No one should have to hide. No one should have to suffer in silence. And no one should have to cross life’s hardest bridge alone.”
Many Perspectives, One Purpose
I’ve Seen This From Every Side
I know what it is like to struggle personally.
I know what it is like to recover.
As a Recovery Coach and Certified Recovery Peer Advocate, I have had the privilege of walking beside individuals and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Through my work, including experience in crisis intervention, case management, continuing care, and recovery support, I have learned that compassion, connection, and the right resources can change the course of someone’s future.
I also understand the employer’s perspective.
Growing up in a family business taught me that business owners genuinely care about their employees, but they also carry the responsibility of protecting their business and every family that depends on it.
Bridge Forward was created to bridge those worlds.
- To help employers.
- To support employees.
- To strengthen families.
- To start conversations before a crisis happens.
“This is more than my business. This is my promise.”

Why It Matters
Why This Work Matters to Me
If one little girl never has to feel like she has to pretend everything is okay…
If one employee feels safe enough to ask for help…
If one family finds hope instead of shame…
Then Bridge Forward has fulfilled its purpose.
Both Sides of the Story
Why I Understand Employees, Employers, and Families
I understand the employee who is afraid to speak up.
I understand the employer who wants to help but is afraid of saying the wrong thing.
I understand the families who just want their loved one to be safe.
Both sides care. Both sides are scared.
And both sides deserve better.
That is why Bridge Forward exists.
For Employees
You are more than your worst day. We will help you find the next step.
For Employers
You shouldn't have to choose between caring for your people and protecting your business. We help you do both.
For Families
You don't have to carry this alone. There is hope, there are resources, and there is a way forward.
How I Work
How I Work: I Look for the Gaps
When I work with someone, I don’t just focus on the immediate problem—I look for the gaps.
Together, we’ll identify what’s missing in your recovery, your support system, your wellbeing, and your daily life. Whether it’s finding the right treatment, connecting you with community resources, rebuilding family relationships, creating healthy routines, or simply having someone who won’t give up on you, I’ll keep looking for solutions until we find what works.
I believe recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every person deserves a plan built around their unique needs, strengths, and goals.
I will stand beside you, encourage you, and help you navigate the obstacles in your way. I’ll connect you with trusted resources—including treatment providers, therapists, holistic options, recovery communities, family support, and other professionals—so you always know where to turn.
I won’t give up on you as long as you don’t give up on yourself.
But I’ll also be honest with you: I can’t want your recovery more than you do.
Nobody can work harder than the person fighting to become healthy. My promise is to walk beside you, help you find the gaps that are holding you back, and support you every step of the way. As long as you’re willing to keep moving forward, I’ll be there to help you find the next step.

Common Questions
What to Expect When You Reach Out
It's non-clinical, one-on-one support from someone who has lived it. I'm not a therapist or a treatment program—I help you find the right care, build a plan around your life, and stay encouraged while you do the work.
A Personal Promise
My Personal Promise to You
If you’ve taken the time to learn about Bridge Forward, I want to personally thank you.
This organization was built from my heart, my recovery, my family, and years of walking alongside people during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
I know what it’s like to struggle.
I know what it feels like to wonder if life can get better.
I also know what it feels like when someone believes in you enough to help you find your way.
That’s why I do this.
I don’t believe anyone should ever feel like they’re just another case or another phone call. Every person has a story, every family deserves hope, and every employer deserves a trusted partner who genuinely cares about both their employees and their business.
When you work with Bridge Forward, my promise is simple:
- I will listen before I speak.
- I will treat every person with dignity and respect.
- I will meet people where they are, not where I think they should be.
- If I can help, I will.
- If someone else can help better than I can, I’ll connect you with trusted professionals and resources that I believe in.
- And I won’t disappear after making a referral. I’ll continue checking in, encouraging, supporting, and helping people navigate the next steps for as long as our services are wanted and needed.
I believe recovery is possible.
I believe families can heal.
I believe employers can create workplaces where asking for help is seen as strength, not weakness.
I believe one conversation can change the course of a person’s life.
Most of all, I believe no one should have to wait until they’re in crisis before someone reaches out.
If Bridge Forward can help one person find hope, one family find peace, or one employer make a difference in an employee’s life, then every step of this journey has been worth it.
Thank you for trusting me.
It would be an honor to walk beside you.
With gratitude,
Bernadette Bartsch
Founder, Bridge Forward
Every bridge begins with one step.
Sometimes that step is asking for help. Sometimes it's offering support. Sometimes it's simply starting the conversation.
Bridge Forward exists to help people take that first step—together.
Gratitude
A Special Thank You to the People Who Helped
I want to give a special thank you to Andrew Drazan. He had a vision when he created Wellbridge to build a place where people could heal with dignity and where treatment was never one size fits all. He understood that every person’s story is different, and that healing should be personal. I felt that the moment I walked through the doors.
Andrew thought outside the box when he created Wellbridge. He didn’t accept the way things had always been done — he built something different, and that different approach is what led to my healing. It’s exactly what inspired me to do the same with Bridge Forward.
And for hiring people like Laurie. During one of the darkest times in my life, when I felt like the world was against me, I struggled just to get out of bed. Laurie would come and check on me, treating me with kindness when I felt I deserved none. She gave me the courage to get out of bed and begin healing.
That experience changed my life. It showed me that healing doesn’t always come from grand gestures. Sometimes it comes from someone simply showing up, believing in you, and reminding you that you’re worth fighting for.
Because of Andrew’s vision and the people he chose to bring to Wellbridge, I discovered what compassionate care truly looks like. It made me want to become part of the healing process for others. Every day, I strive to offer the same kindness that was once given to me.
Big or small, every gesture matters. You never know when a simple act of kindness will become someone’s turning point.
Your Next Step
Take the Next Step — Ready When You Are
You don’t need the perfect words or a plan. Pick whichever step feels easiest today—every one of them reaches me directly, and everything you share stays confidential.
Dedication
For My Husband, Keith

Thank you for never giving up on me.
As a first responder, you’ve seen more trauma than most people ever will. You’ve watched coworkers suffer in silence, afraid to ask for help, and you’ve carried the weight of losing too many who never felt safe enough to reach out.
Because of what you’ve lived through, this mission belongs to you as much as it does to me. Together, we hope to build a world where asking for help is seen as strength, and where first responders can access support without fear—before crisis becomes tragedy.
This work is also dedicated to your beautiful mother, Phyllis, a nurse who spent her life caring for others. We miss you every day. Her memory guides us as we fight for those who are struggling and work to spare other families the same loss.
I love you both. My hope is that Bridge Forward helps people find support sooner, gives families hope, and makes the next step clear when it’s needed most.
If it helps even one person find hope in time, it will all have been worth it.
Let's start the conversation.
Whether you're an employee, a family member, or a leader responsible for a team—reaching out is confidential, and there's no cost to begin.
